Lunch Programs ~ Please order through SchoolCash online by September 26!
A note about Swiss Chalet Lunches:
- Swiss Chalet sauce will NOT be included in kids meals, as it has too much sodium and doesn't comply with the Ministry of Education food and beverage policy. However, a small package of ketchup will be included for every lunch and complies with the policy.
- There will be a very small box of gravy to go with the mashed potato being ordered.
BOOK FAIR ~ Sept. 27 to Sept 30 Silver Stream Library
Dear Families of Silver Stream Public School,
We are pleased to announce the arrival of The Scholastic
Book Fair which will run from Tuesday September 27th-Friday September 30th! The
fair is Pirate-themed encouraging our Bookaneers to stop by and find their
favourite treasures; books.
Our Teacher-Librarian, Mr. Maisel, is looking for parent
volunteers throughout the week. If you are interested in helping out, please
email him directly at david.maisel@yrdsb.ca.
The Book Fair will be open during Curriculum Night
(operating from 5:30-8:30) and will be a great opportunity for families to stop
by and support the school! Our goal is to raise $3,000. The more we raise, the
more Scholastic gives our library back in new resources! There will be a Family
Event that night in which you can enter your child’s
name into a draw for a chance for them to win $25 worth of product for
themselves and $25 for their classroom! The name will be picked at school the
next morning.
There will be books, posters, school supplies and more
available for purchase! Flyers will be sent out on Friday. There are wishlists
on the back of the flyers (JK-Gr. 5) that students can come in and fill out
with their classes on “Browsing Day”
Tuesday. This will help you get an idea of what your children want and how much
it will cost. Additionally, teachers will have wishlists for their classrooms.
Parents are welcome to buy any books on the wishlist as a donation to the
classroom.
Furthermore, we are holding two school-wide contests.
1) Book Cover Contest - Students can draw an original cover
for their favourite book - Prize - $30 towards Book Fair product. Please make sure they include their first and
last name with their teacher’s name and
submit it to the library.
2) Your child can come to school dressed as a Pirate on the
first day of sales, Wednesday September 28th. The best-dressed Pirate will be
announced the next day - Prize - $30 towards Book Fair product. **Please do
not send any type of weapons with their costumes –
For example: Swords, guns & hooks**
We look forward to a great week of
fun and reading!

School Council Meeting - REVISED DATE
Dear families of Silver Stream,
Our first School Council Meeting will be on Tuesday
September 20 at 7:00pm (REVISED from Sept. 27) in the library of the
school. As this is the first meeting of this school year, it will be an
evening for elections.
School Council meetings are a wonderful way to be involved
in your child’s school and get to know other parents in our community.
You are always invited to attend as a parent to listen and/or contribute
to discussions OR as a parent, become a more active voting member of the
council through elections to plan activities for our school. School
Council generally meets once every 6 weeks.
In your “First Day package” that went home with your child,
there is more information about school council and a form included for
nominations. Should you wish to be nominated for a position on council,
please submit this to the Principal, Carol Takagi prior to the elections.
Thank you!
School Cash online
As you know, our school has migrated to an on-line payment system that has been implemented in all schools in York Region.
To register for School Cash Online we understand that there
have been some system delays and we are hoping that it is simply due to the
number of students registering. Please be patient and keep trying using
the tips noted below.
In order to register you will need:
1) School Board Name – York Region District School
Board
2) School name – Silver Stream PS
3) Your Child’s student number and Last name*
*On the first day of school students were given a sticker
with their name, student number and teacher. Please use the student
number provided as it is not the same as the nine digit number on their report
cards.
Thank you and we appreciate your patience.

Message from our Trustee
As we start another school year, we are very pleased to
welcome all of our new and returning families. I hope you all enjoyed the hot
summer months and are looking forward to the start of school.
There is a lot to look forward to in the months ahead and many
ways for families to engage with their child’s learning. There is a strong connection between parent
and family engagement and student achievement and well-being, and I hope that
you will find opportunities to get involved.
In the coming year,
trustees will continue to focus on the priorities that we set out in our Multi-Year Plan: student achievement and well-being; the
delivery of effective and sustainable educational programs; and the responsible
stewardship of Board resources.
We know that
partnerships with parents and families are essential to achieving these goals.
However you choose to get involved, know that you are making a difference to
your child’s learning.
I wish you all the
best for the upcoming school year.
Carol Chan
