REMINDER Safe Drop off and Pick up

Dear Families of Silver Stream,

For the safety of our students, please do not park on Farmstead Drive next to the school.  This puts students at risk when crossing the street and there is not sufficient space for vehicles to pass safely.   If you need to drive to school and escort your child to school, please park in the community centre lot adjacent to the school and follow the walkways to the school.   Students/parents may safely cross on the red lines shown below.
If your child can independently  exit the car, please enter the loop slowly at the front of the school and your child(ren) can exit the vehicle curbside.  Drivers can then move safely and slowly to the left lane to exit the loop.
In following safe practices, parents/guardians MUST meet their child(ren) outside at the end of the day.  Because we do not know all of our parents and guardians, and we need to monitor all adults who enter our building,  it is important that all adults remain outside at the end of the day during dismissal, for your children’s safety.

Thank you for your understanding and cooperation in keeping all of our students safe.

Computer Use and Eye Strain

Computer Use and Eye Strain - a 45/15 Practice for Students

Students spend more and more time with electronics and engaged in passive activities like watching TV, playing video games or using a computer.  More than ever, it is important that our students are encouraged to be active. Regular vision breaks from computer use are important in preventing eye strain. Changing activities after forty-five minutes of near work is recommended.  More information can be found at http://goo.gl/ETGFtQ.

Cross Country

About 50 of our students attended the Area cross country meet today.  Many students improved in their placement from a previous run and were proud of their efforts.  4 of our students and possibly a small team have placed to compete at the Regional Tournament. Congratulations to all our students for their participation in the event and for doing such a great job at representing Silver Stream!  Thanks to our teachers Ms. Draper, Ms. Rajakariar and Ms. Khorakchi for your coaching.

Picture Day! Wednesday October 14

Please mark your calendars, and start practicing your smile... it's picture day at Silver Stream on Wednesday October  14, 2015.  Picture re-take day is scheduled for November 19.

Lunch Drop Off *NEW*

About 50 lunches a day are dropped off at school at lunchtime. We encourage all students to bring their lunch to school in the morning.  When this isn't possible, please consider dropping off your child's lunch earlier than 11:55am and drop off at the table outside the office. Students have 20 minutes to eat their lunch (11:55am - 12:15pm) and some lunches arrive after 12:00, leaving little time for students to eat. It is ideal if you label your child's lunchbag prior to arrival but we do have labels available to you.  Students will no longer be coming to the office or front foyer to pick up their lunch.  Instead lunches will be moved to a table more safely accessible to students.   This is to prevent congestion at the front door of the school and necessary so that office staff can monitor safe entry at the school. We appreciate your cooperation and understanding.  Thank you.

Silver Stream Runs or Walks for Terry Fox

A beautiful afternoon to support Cancer Research.  Students set individual goals for how many times they would circulate around the school.  Many also ran in honour of someone they know who is currently fighting or battled cancer.  Donations can be made online at https://secure.e2rm.com/registrant/TeamPage.aspx?EventID=166394&LangPref=en-CA&TeamID=594956 or dropped off in the office. Thank you for your donation to such a worthwhile cause!

Lunch Drop off

A reminder to Parents/Guardians that if it is necessary to drop off a student's lunch, there is a table outside the office for this purpose.  Please use the paper provided to identify the lunch, if needed.  Students or student monitors (for JK/SK students) will come to the table and pick up their lunch.  For safety and security and to protect instructional time, parents cannot drop off lunches to classrooms.  Thank you for your cooperation and understanding.

Late Buses

Occasionally buses will be late or unable to operate due to circumstances beyond our control.  To ensure that students are not waiting for an extended period at a bus stop, please check www.schoolbuscity.com in the morning or when the bus hasn't arrived for an update.  Thank you.
