Inclement Weather Day Reminder
In the event
that buses are cancelled:
If
buses are cancelled in the morning, they are also cancelled for the
afternoon.
For safety
reasons, you may choose whether or not to send your child to school; however, if
you keep him/her home and your child is NOT bused, you MUST call the school and
report the absence. Our Safe Arrival Program dictates that we know where
all absent students are – if we cannot reach you, we will contact your
emergency contact person. If we cannot reach that person, we are obligated
to contact the police.
There may be
a modified program in your child’s class due to numbers of students attending
and absences of some teachers. If your child does not attend school on a
day that buses are cancelled due to inclement weather, your child will not face
attendance related repercussions.
Once
students arrive, they are expected to stay. You can, however, make arrangements
ahead of time to pick up your child at lunch.
When buses
are cancelled – there are:
· NO Special Events days or field trips.
·
Please send a lunch with your child.
Please note:
Dress for
the weather – bus cancellation does not mean automatic indoor
recesses or early entry into the school.
Information regarding bus
cancellations is posted at www.schoolbuscity.com, conveyed to GTA radio/television stations, and
available on the Board’s Twitter feed: https://twitter.com/#!/YRDSB.
Pita Pit Lunch Program
School Council has organized a new lunch program for students. Pita Pit will be providing lunches on Thursdays beginning April 7 until near the end of June (12 weeks). The order forms went home with your child on Tuesday March 22. If you are interested in this program, please complete the form and return it with a CHEQUE ONLY to your child's teacher by Tuesday March 29.
Are you moving?
At this time of year, we are beginning to plan for September 2016. It is important for organizational purposes that we have as accurate a number as possible, in terms of how many students we will have in each grade. If you know that your family will be moving prior to September, please let our office know. Also, if you have a child who will be attending Junior Kindergarten in the fall, please ensure that you register him/her at your earliest convenience.
Thanks very much. This is greatly appreciated.

World Water Day - Tuesday March 22
"We are 60-70% water by weight. Every cell in our body is inflated by water. Water allows metabolic reactions to occur and enables molecules to move within and between cells. When we drink it, we also take in whatever's in it, from DDT to viruses, bacteria and parasites.
Our health is tied to air, water and food from the soil. That means we should keep them clean".
~ David Suzuki
Water Day is a day to educate ourselves about water-related issues and to take action and make a difference. Our Student Leadership Council is encouraging all of us to think about water and are promoting a spirit day on Tuesday by asking our students to bring ONLY reusable water bottles to school to ensure that no drops of water are wasted.

Happy March Break! and Thank you.
On behalf of the staff at Silver Stream PS, we wish all of our families a happy and safe March Break with warmer temperatures. There has been a lot of information and research shared in the news regarding children spending too much time inside using electronics or watching TV instead of being active and engaged in creative and/or outdoor physical activity. We have encouraged our students to spend at least 30 minutes everyday outside during the break to encourage a healthy lifestyle.
Enjoy!
A BIG thank you to our community for your generosity in donations for our Syrian refugee family and others in our area. The family is very grateful and appreciative of your kindness. Thank you to Ms. Panchal's grade 4 class for taking the initiative to organize this campaign "Do you want to be a hero?" . We have so many heroes in our school...
