Terry Fox Run ~ postponed to Thursday Oct 1

Due to  rain during the scheduled Terry Fox Run, Silver Stream students will participate on Thursday October 1 after lunch.

Attention Grade 8 Parents

Bill Crothers Secondary School (BCSS) is a system-wide school with a focus on healthy active living and sport. The school is open for Grade 9 to 12 students. Students and parents from across the region are invited to attend an information evening.  Information will be shared regarding the vision, mission, schedule, programs, the transfer policy, and application process.

All information sessions will occur at Bill Crothers Secondary School, 44 Main Street, Unionville, Ontario, L3R 2E4 from 7 – 8:30 in the cafeteria.

Wednesday October 7, 2015 – Students in the West & North Region

Tuesday October 13, 2015 – Students in the East Region

Thursday October 15^th, 2015 – Students in the Central Region

Due to building capacity regulations, we request that only students and parents interested in attending BCSS for the school year 2016 - 2017, attend one of these evening. Parking is limited so we ask that parents carpool or park at the GO Station. Markham By-law officers regularly enforce the parking regulations on school property, so please abide by the posted parking regulations.

PA DAY reminder

Just a reminder to all families that MONDAY SEPTEMBER 28 is a PA DAY.  There is no school for students. 

Casual Lunch Assistants Needed

We have an urgent need for casual lunchtime assistants.  This is a paid position and involves supervising our students during the lunchtime from 11:55am to 12:55pm as needed.  We would call you as far ahead as possible to fill in for one of our regular lunchtime supervisors who is absent.  If you are interested or know someone who might be,  please contact our office for more information.  905 508-5696

School Council Meeting ~ Tues October 6 at 7pm

Silver Stream School Council Meeting and Election

Tuesday October 6 2015

7:00 pm

The Silver Stream School Council:

• ·        Actively fundraises for items such as additional technology, musical instruments, math manipulatives etc.
• ·        Organizes events such as movie nights, end of year carnival, speakers
• ·        Provides a voice for the parent community to the school

The council is comprised of up to 16 members.  If you are interested in becoming a voting member of council, please ensure we receive a “School Council Candidate Nomination Form” included in your first day package.  Elections will be held during this meeting for the 2015/2016 school year.

All parents are welcome to attend council meetings and do not have to be elected members of council.  Parents are always needed to volunteer in various ways.

Subway Lunch

Just a reminder to all parents/students that Subway Lunch begins on Monday September 21. 

Bus Safety

Today our students participated in Bus Safety training.  They watch a presentation about safe behaviour while on the bus and then go outside and practice a safe evacuation.  Thanks to our team of grade 8 students who assisted with students evacuating the buses. 

Welcome Back!

On behalf of all the staff at Silver Stream PS,  I would like to warmly welcome all of our new and returning students and their families.  I am Carol Takagi, the new Principal at Silver Stream and excited to be here!  These past few days, I have had the opportunity to meet some students and some parents.  What a wonderful community of learners.  For those of you I haven’t met yet, please take a moment to introduce yourself when you see me.

To communicate in a timely way and in protecting our planet’s resources, I will be using this BLOG to share and store information with you.  Please subscribe via email to the blog so that you will receive blog posts as they happen.  I have found this to be a very efficient way to communicate messages quickly to parents as well as share some useful information, events/activities happening in the school, websites and resources.  This means that I will be retiring the monthly school newsletter.

The school also uses email to send out important information, so please make sure that you keep our records up to date with your correct email address.  We have circulated two emails so far:  a letter from the Director regarding the new Health and Physical Education curriculum and a letter to parents about allergies.   If you didn’t receive the emails, please send an email to the school email address silver.stream.ps@yrdsb.ca indicating your child’s name and grade as well as your email address so that we can enter it in our system.   Occasionally, the emails may end up in your “junk mailbox” so please check there too.  

Please take a moment to familiarize yourself with our school website http://www.yrdsb.ca/schools/silverstream.ps .  It has many helpful links for parents/guardians connected to the YRDSB.  We will be updating this as soon as possible.
