Fidget Spinners
Hello parents/guardians,
Fidget spinners are making their way into classrooms here at Silver Stream. In a few situations, they can be appropriately used as a fidget toy for a few of our students. The majority of time, they are a distraction from learning and students are asked to put them away during class time. If your child brings a fidget spinner to school, we would appreciate your support at home in letting your child know that the spinner should be stored safely in a knapsack during class time. Please ensure that your child understands that if a fidget spinner is brought to school, it is at risk of becoming lost/misplaced. Unfortunately there will be no time given to assist in finding lost spinners.
We have also had incidents of students buying or "renting" fidget spinners from other students. Teachers are monitoring this but please ensure that your child does not have money to bring to school and is not buying or renting fidget spinners. Generally, students should not bring money to school.
Thank you for your support and understanding.
Early Dismissal Thursday June 29
All schools in the York Region District School Board are
committed to improving student achievement and well-being. On Thursday,
June 29, 2017, an early release day will take place to allow elementary
teachers and support staff to take part in meetings during the afternoon of
that day. These meetings will allow for
school staff to engage in culminating activities regarding the review and
revision of the School’s Improvement Plan as well as year-end and transition
activities that support student success.
As has been our practice in the past, students will attend
school during the morning of Thursday, June 29, 2017 only. Students will be dismissed early that day at
11:05am. Arrangements will be made to ensure that
students who are normally bused to and from school will receive transportation
at this time. Parents/guardians whose
children attend after school child care should make appropriate arrangements to
address this change in schedule.

High 5 ME to WE Rafiki Bracelets
On behalf of our High Five Committee at Silver Stream, we will be selling ME to WE rafiki bracelets for $10 each.
How Did ME to WE Start?
Humanitarians, activists and social entrepreneurs, brothers Craig and Marc Kielburger believe that together, WE can change the world. Over 20 years ago, they set out on a bold mission: to work with developing communities to free children and their families from poverty and exploitation. Their vision expanded to include empowering youth at home, connecting them with global issues and social causes, and partnering with schools to inspire young change-makers from within the classroom. And with the launch of ME to WE, they created an innovative social enterprise that provides products that make an impact, empowering people to change the world with their everyday consumer choices.
All proceeds from the sale of the rafikis will go towards providing water and education to people in Haiti.
Once the rafikis arrive at Silver Stream, we will start to sell them right away so make sure your child has $10 to help make a difference. We will be selling the rafikis in front of the library every morning recess at 10:05. Each one is put together uniquely so your child does not need to worry about getting the same bracelet twice. You can purchase as many rafikis as you want, all for a good cause.
If you and child would like to make a difference, then come and purchase a Rafiki bracelet as soon as they arrive. So get your $10 ready!
